It's been a long time since I've run a roleplaying game. Too long, in fact. Not that the rules and the dice-rolling are all that interesting – that's not what's fun for me. It's about creating a world and being part of a story as it unfolds.

Wiser folk than me have written plenty about the genre. Here's some of what I've learned from reading what others have written, and doing a bit of thinking myself.

Current GameThe game we're currently playing.
RulesThe rules and mechanics of the game.
SettingAbout the campaign setting of our game.
StyleThe style of roleplaying we'll be using.
